2024 Reading Goals
Since 2022, I have set myself a goal for the number of books I want to read each year, which I have consistently exceeded by just reading whatever takes my fancy. But, for 2024, as well as challenging myself to read 30 books, I have added some ‘mini-challenges’ to help guide my reading. I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone as I tend to stick to young adult fantasy; I hope to diversify and cover some of the gaps in my reading, maybe even discovering a new genre I like!
My ‘mini-challenges’ are as follows:
Read two books about mental health.
Listen to two audiobooks.
Read two translated books.
Read two non-fiction books (separate from the mental health books).
Buddy read two books with my mum (a tradition we started last year and really enjoyed).
I already have some ideas for books I want to read to fulfil these prompts, which are:
(Mental health books) You Will Get Through This Night by Daniel Howell, Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts by Sally M. Winston, PsyD, and Martin N. Seif, PhD, or It’s Not Okay To Feel Blue And Other Lies curated by Scarlett Curtis.
(Audiobooks) That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon written by Kimberly Lemming and narrated by Hazel Addison, The Sandman: Act II written by Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs, and narrated by a full cast, or Good Omens written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and narrated by Martin Jarvis.
(Translated books) Welcome To The Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-reum, Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, or Heaven by Mieko Kawakami.
(Non-fiction books) The Five by Hallie Rubenhold, Unwell Women by Elinor Cleghorn, or Korean History in Maps: From Prehistory to the Twenty-First Century edited by Michael D. Shin.
(Buddy read books) Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, or The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.
I hope my reading goals have given you some inspiration, or at least some book recommendations. I will record my progress towards these goals through my blog posts, and I hope you will join me on this journey for 2024!
Remember to hydrate, read a book, and take a nap if you need one. I’ll see you again next time.
